What do EMTs, Bouncers, and your ERT Team have in common?
Answer: they may all have to respond in case of an emergency.
In fact, Jimmy had to do just that while he was moonlighting as a nightclub bouncer. He was also training as a firefighter EMT at the time, so there he was in a high risk and potentially dangerous job, yet also in a position where he may need to render aid. What did he learn you ask? And how can that be applied to your team or situation? We’ve got you covered! This week we’ve complied some safety tips to help you while you’re out and about at the local bar, rock concert, or racing to be the first to nab that new air fryer on Black Friday.
1. Stay Aware of Your Surroundings
In high-tension environments being aware of potential hazards can prevent injuries to both yourself and others. Always scan the room for potential dangers and note the nearest exit routes. If you’re feeling uncomfortable, be prepared to act quickly.
2. Avoid Unnecessary Risks
Jumping into an emergency situation without assessing the risks could lead to serious injuries. Always evaluate any situation before intervening. Prioritize your personal safety, and use the least aggressive approach to defuse conflicts.
3. Proper Training is Crucial
Handling conflicts and medical emergencies requires the right knowledge and skills. Invest time in first aid training and conflict resolution classes, and you’ll be better equipped to handle unexpected situations with more confidence.
4. Communication is Key
Clear and constant communication will help you and your team manage chaotic situations. To help stay in contact we recommend developing a reliable communication method such as using radios, flashlights or hand signals.
Is your team prepared for the unexpected? We teach these skills (and more!) in our expert-led courses: Workplace Violence Awareness, Building Evacuation, First Aid, and CPR – just to name a few. Make sure your team is equipped to face any challenge with confidence. Drop us an email or simply reply to this message to secure your spot on our calendar.
